Competition - Sac State Winter Jazz Festival
28th Annual Sacramento State Winter Jazz Festival
Saturday, December 8, 2018
The 2018 Sacramento State Winter Jazz Festival, open to Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and Collegiate Jazz Ensembles, Jazz Combos, Vocal Jazz Ensembles, is a non-competitive, educational festival in that no scoring or rankings of bands are made or implied. Instead, our selected clinicians are simply on hand to provide constructive commentary through verbal feedback. Our festival revolves completely around one main concept: it is important that our young musicians are taught how to play jazz while enjoying the learning process through every means available.
The annual Winter Jazz Festival features performances by high school and junior college jazz bands, jazz combos, and vocal jazz groups, performing every half hour throughout the day in Capistrano Hall and the Student Union. The closing concert at 7pm in the University Ballroom of the Student Union features guest trumpeter Wayne Bergeron along with the Sac State Jazz Ensemble.
Wayne Bergeron is one of the most sought-after musicians in the world, with studio sessions, film dates, tours, concerts, guest appearances, and clinics keep him busy not only in his hometown of Los Angeles, but worldwide. Bergeron has recorded and played with Quincy Jones, Gordon Goodwin, Arturo Sandoval, Pat Williams, Sammy Nestico, Jack Sheldon, Tom Kubis, Bob Florence, Bob Curnow, and many others.
His session work includes over 350 TV and motion picture soundtracks, and Bergeron can be heard as a featured soloist on films such as Ted 2, Minions, Jersey Boys, The Incredibles, Rocky Balboa, The Green Hornet, Despicable Me 2, Leather Heads, The Perfect Game, and numerous TV shows including Jeopardy.
